Houston police are searching for two young women who have been scamming retirement home residents by pretending to be high school students raising funds for a school trip.

The young women were caught on surveillance cameras at a retirement home in Houston called The Hallmark.

From KHOU 11 News:

“You notice the bouncy stuff, they’re very bubbly,” said The Hallmark’s executive director Rachel Stevens, pointing to two young women in a surveillance video.

With a friendly handshake and a smile, the girls smooth-talked their way into a resident’s apartment at The Hallmark.

“Said they were the granddaughter of one my other residents, so she let them in,” Stevens explained.

The girls claimed to be students at Memorial High School and Stevens said, they told a story: “That their band had won a trip to Florida this summer and that each band member had to collect $600 in order to go and that they were getting donations.”

A few minutes later, they walked back out with a $250 check, and a victory dance.

The retirement home has announced it will require visitors to hand over a driver’s license at the entrance from now on, and the girls’ pictures have been posted all over the facility. KHOU reports that anyone with information should call the Major Offenders Unit at 713-308-3100, or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
