It’s not about the real estate, it’s about the partnerships. Partnership is the avenue to innovation. This industry has been focused for years on the buildings: investing in them, developing them, managing them. Don’t build anything… focus on the partnerships and the platform. Figure out how to bring the outside in. Develop a collaborative platform of products and solutions for your residents, as well as your potential Boomer residents. The companies that are succeeding in this venture—Apple, Microsoft, Amazon—are not really technology companies. They are tech-enabled platforms that encourage partnerships.
