A Mexican man has been convicted in Texas for a $15 million investment fraud scheme and is facing up to 30 years in U.S. prison.

From the Associated Press:

Roberto Trinidad Del Carpio Frescas of Chihuahua, Mexico, remains in custody pending sentencing in El Paso.

A federal jury on Friday convicted Del Carpio of 24 counts of wire fraud and 10 counts of money laundering.

The 39-year-old Del Carpio formed several companies in Texas even thought he was not licensed as a dealer or registered as an adviser.

Prosecutors on Monday said Del Carpio promoted himself as having superior knowledge and ability with stocks, bonds, oil and gas, precious metals and currency.

Del Carpio swindled 100 investors on both sides of the border, AP reports.
